The scholarship—a prize of $5,000—has an ongoing deadline and requires students to demonstrate an upstanding academic record and leadership abilities, such as participating in extracurricular activities or volunteer work.

Applicants must submit an application and a 500-word essay about living in Overtown. They must also send their official academic transcript, three recommendation letters and show proof of college or university acceptance.

Once the application has been received, students will be contacted to schedule an interview.

The application is available at this link. Documents must be delivered to the St. John Community Development Corporation, located at 1311 NW 3rd Ave.
