Dean of Faculty Jacqueline Peña was one of the 12 nominees selected as the 2017 Hispanic Women of Distinction Honoree.

“I was surprised for being selected and honored; it’s quite an award,” Peña said. “We are always doing so much, running at 100 miles per hour that we don’t think about the positive impact we cause in our students, helping them and making dreams come true.”

Peña started working for Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in August 2010 as chairperson for the College Prep Department. She then transferred to North Campus to be Dean of Faculty in 2014.

She was nominated by her colleague Ivonne Fernandez from the American Association of Retired Persons who was also an award winner.

The Hispanic Women of Distinction’s main goal is to empower Latinas and to inform them about other successful women.

To be eligible for the award, the contestant has to be nominated by someone, submit paperwork and show proof and distinction that she deserves to be the honoree.
