The documentary Deep City: The Birth of the Miami Sound will be shown at Hialeah Campus, 1780 W 49 St., on Feb.17 at 10 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. in Room 1101.
The original film produced by local public television station WLRN is about two African American men from Miami who started their own record label in the early 1960s.
“The documentary tells of the journey and the impact both of these gentlemen made throughout all of Florida,” said Alex Hernandez, associate director of learning resources of Hialeah Campus.
Willie Clarke and Johnny Pearsall are the names of the two individuals who gave birth to Deep City Records which featured soul music.
“The room is about the size of a classroom, so students are encouraged to come early and get their seats,” Hernandez said.
There is limited seating for both of the showings. The event is free of charge and open to all Miami Dade College students, faculty and staff.
