The computer courtyard and library at Kendall Campus are undergoing a $578,000 facelift to modernize the facility, according Brian Stokes, the senior director of campus administration.
Learning resources closed in March due to the coronavirus and started renovations at the beginning of July. They are expected to reopen before the end of the spring semester.
“I believe the renovations are important because it gives a new feel to the library and the computer courtyard,” Stokes said. “It will allow students to navigate through the bulk location much easier and it’s a more warm, welcoming and colorful environment.”
The computer courtyard will get new carpeting and all of its furniture will be revamped. At the library, some of the furniture will be changed.
The carpet and furniture will be blue and grey to match Miami Dade College’s signature colors. New furniture includes: individual overstuffed chairs with tablet arms, tables with power outlets, frosted glass separators and new welcome desks. The library will also add a study space enclosed with glass.
Renovations in both areas include new lighting.
While the work is being done, services have continued remotely and at alternate locations on campus.
To access computers, students and faculty can go to Rooms 6355 and 6232. A makeshift library is located in the cafeteria in building 8 and allows for limited requests and pick ups. Both locations enforce social distancing.
Students can also request remote research assistance by visiting the Ask a Librarian website or by calling the library at (305) 237-2292.
The library’s on-site hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday. Remote hours are: 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
