Onyx Magazine Selects MDC Executive Vice President And Provost As One Of Florida’s Most Influential Black Women

Malou C. Harrison, the vice president and provost at Miami Dade College, has been selected as one of Florida’s most impactful and influential Black women by Onyx Magazine.

Harrison will be recognized at the 7th Annual Women on the Move event on March 18 at the Alfond Inn in Winter Park, Florida.

Since joining the College in 1989, Harrison has served in a multitude of roles including: chief of staff to the college president, executive assistant to the Wolfson Campus President, dean of students at North Campus and campus president at West Campus, Eduardo J. Padrón Campus and North Campus.

Harrison also serves on boards such as the National Advisory Board of the Community College Consortium on Immigrant Education, Board of Directors of Thriving Mind of South Florida and the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League. 

Prior to MDC, she worked at the State University of New York at Buffalo as the assistant to the director of TRIO Educational Opportunity Center. She has also written a chapter in two books: Engaging African American Males in Community College (Contemporary Perspectives on Access, Equity and Achievement) and Working Toward an Equitable and Prosperous Future For All: How Community Colleges and Immigrants Are Changing America.

She has a bachelor’s degree from SUNY in management, a master’s degree from Florida International University in teaching English to speakers of other languages and a doctorate in higher education and community college leadership from Walden University.
