Scholarships For LGBTQ+ And Allied Students Accepting Applications

Applications for the Freidin Brown, P.A. & SAVE Social Justice Scholarships are open until Aug 30.

The scholarships, which aim to support the future of LGBTQ+ and allied students from South Florida who have special interests in social justice, award up to $25,000.

Students must be enrolled in college for at least two years and pursuing a major related to social justice such as law, public policy and education. 

The application requires proof of a volunteering background for the LGBTQ+ community or any other social justice cause. 

Applicants must also provide an updated transcript, an essay, a personal statement and a written statement of how the financial aid will help them in their careers.

Scholarship winners will be announced on Sept. 30.

Vergara, who graduated from Maritime and Science Technology Academy in 2025, will serve as a news writer for The Reporter during the 2025-2026 school year. She aspires to work in the public relations department of a large company while being a freelance journalist.
