Student Services Unveils Renovated Space After $9 Million Renovation
A $9.4 million renovation project at Wolfson Campus has united all student services departments under one space in Room 3130.
The project, which began the demolition stage in May of 2024 with renovations starting in November, was unveiled on Aug. 22.
Using a storefront-like model, it connects admissions, advisement, financial aid, bursar’s office, Single Stop, international student services and the New Student Center. The dean of students office is located next to the facility in Room 3150.
“Unlike the previous office, the new space brings all student services together in one place,” said William Soto, the dean of students at Wolfson Campus. “This prevents students from having to visit multiple offices and ensures they can access the support they need more efficiently.”
Changes include an expanded storefront, new lighting and flooring, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and modern audiovisual equipment and technology.
“Well, my first thought was amazement. I have been hearing a lot of drilling and other stuff as a student, and it’s really nice to see [student services] finally come to fruition,” said Joel Escobar, a sophomore in the Honors College.
The space offers a minimalist design with large modernist window facades, abundant wood and plastic furniture and LED lighting. Covering 19,554 sq. ft., the space has open study spaces for students, three conference rooms, two futuristic-style private study pod spaces and more than a dozen offices.
During the renovations, many of the student services departments were temporarily relocated to the third floor of the 2000 building in Room 2301. The reading and writing center is scheduled to move into the vacant space.
“I think the [new] space is more interactive than when we were in [building 2000], and I believe that it gives students a chance to put face to name better,” said Vincent Frasier, a part-time clerk at the New Student Center. “It has the Apple Store vibe.”
The student services area is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
