Miami Dade College volleyball player Wendy Romero has been named the Florida College System Activities Association offensive player of the week for games from September 1 through September 7.

Romero, a sophomore, had 69 kills, 49 digs, 87 points and 10 blocks in four games versus North Idaho College, Snow College, the College of Southern Idaho, and Salt Lake Community College during a tournament in Idaho.

The 5-foot-11 outside hitter’s best game came in a loss to  Salt Lake Community College where she had 23 kills, 27.5 points and 12 digs.

The accomplishments add to Romero’s already gaudy resume. Romero started volleyball at her local athletic club in Cojedes, Venezuela when she was 12-years-old; by the time she was 13, she was on the Venezuelan junior national team traveling to games in Spain, Colombia, Brazil, South Korea. In 2008 she represented Venezuela at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

Last year at MDC, Romero  was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-American First-Team and the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American Second-Team; she led the Sharks with 377.5 points and added 369 kills.
