Live Arts Miami To Host Poet and Musician Aja Monet

Live Arts Miami is hosting surrealist blues poet and musician Aja Monet at The Ground, 34 N.E. 11th St, in Downtown Miami on Nov. 8.

The New York native is considered one of the most influential poets of the modern generation. She released her debut album, when the poems do what they do, on June 9, 2023. It was applauded by NPR for its combination of music and performative poetry.

In December of 2023, Monet was featured in an episode of NPR’s Tiny Desk series. She performed jazz poetry, a combination of jazz music and spoken word poetry.

Her work explores themes of love, justice and liberation. She has performed in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.

Monet is the youngest-ever winner of the Nuyorican Poets Café Grand Slam—one of the most prestigious annual poetry competitions—when she was 19.
