The Environmental Center At Kendall Campus Needs Volunteers For Restoration Project

Miami Dade College’s Earth Ethics Institute is looking for volunteers for its restoration project at the Environmental Center at Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104 St.

The nine-acre lot located just west of the baseball field includes a lake and walking trails and is filled with native flora and fauna.

However, the area is being overrun by invasive plant species such as the air potato, Brazilian pepper and snake plant.  Volunteers will remove those plants to protect the native species.

Other work will include laying mulch, clearing vegetation and keeping walkways accessible to maintain and preserve the trails.

The volunteering opportunities will be every other Friday. During the summer term, the shifts run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. During the fall and spring semesters, the shifts are from 10 a.m. to noon.

Students can register up to a month in advance on EngageMDC. For more information, contact Melissa Lau at (305) 237-2602 or mlau1@mdc.edu.
