Coffee Vs. Cancer: MDC alum Nikolas Wong has recently released a book titled The Coffee House, and will donate half his proceeds to cancer research.
Nikolas Wong, a 21-year-old Miami Dade College alum, has been a published author since 2011 when his short story Something Simple was registered with the library of congress.
The former criminology major at MDC turned student at the University of Florida has now published his first book, The Coffee House, which is a collection of short stories inspired by his time spent with friends grabbing coffee on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. The book was published this past January.
Wong, who aspires to be a full-time author, is not in it for the recognition or the money, he hopes to make a difference in the world, having pledged to donate half the proceeds from the sale of the book to The American Cancer Society.
“This is definitely not a one-time thing. There will be more to come,” Wong said.
“This whole project with donating half of my proceeds toward cancer research and awareness organizations has become so enjoyable and successful that it has become a calling for me.”
He was inspired to donate toward cancer research after his aunt May Leung was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2007. Leung is currently undergoing care at University of Miami Hospital.
Wong hopes to continue both releasing books and having a positive influence on society.
“I hope this book becomes quite popular and hopefully by the time the second one comes out, I can take on much larger problems, like being able to help people around the world that face other life difficulties, not just cancer,” Wong said.
