The North Campus’ INIT chapter is hosting SharkByte, Miami Dade College’s second annual student-led hackathon, from Nov. 6-8 at the School of Justice Building, 11380 N.W. 27th Ave.
An exact room number for the event has not yet been announced.
INIT is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing underrepresented communities access to learning and job opportunities in the tech industry. They have more than 200 members across all eight MDC campuses.
Participants will learn about new technologies, collaborate on innovative projects, gain hands-on coding experience, and connect with industry learners across the fields of game development, software engineering, cyber security, and artificial intelligence.
Competitors must be 18 years of age or older.
The three-day event is expected to span 36 hours and include around 350 attendees. During the first day, groups of up to four will work on their projects and attend workshops.
On the second day, the teams will develop their projects with assistance from tech experts. Participants will demonstrate their projects to judges on the final day.
Winners will receive prizes that include video game consoles, sponsor merchandise, and get access to internship interview opportunities.
