Student Launches Nonprofit To Enhance The Arts And Address Necessities

Miami Dade College student, Jonathan Wynn-Strachan created the 60 Minutes of Arts nonprofit in 2014 to bring activities and events to the inner city neighborhoods of Miami that have lost art program funding. To do this, Wynn-Strachan presents visual and performing arts activities in the community so students can integrate these skills in their education.

“The arts play a pivotal part of language arts and reading; they are important in social studies; and they are universal, nothing else functions without it,” Wynn-Strachan said.

Recently, Wynn-Strachan launched a nonprofit, Cares, a comprehensive program that serves those in need of food and clothing.  The organization works with the College’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy, allowing MDC students to help and complete service learning requirements. Initiatives include feeding the homeless.

To get involved, students can sign up as a volunteer at http://60minutesofart.weebly.com/cares.html For more information, contact: info@60minutesofart.com.
