Miami Dade College’s Live Arts program will be feature choreographer Kyle Abraham and his dance company’s latest work “Live! The Realest MC” at the Colony Theatre, 1040 Lincoln Road, at 8 p.m. from Feb. 1 to 2.
The performance will showcase Abraham’s dance company, Abraham.In.Motion., and perform pieces relating to Abraham’s inquiries on gender roles in the African American community. His pieces are inspired by story-book characters such as Pinocchio and his own work “Inventing Pookie Jenkins,” in which characters long for acceptance.
“I prayed that I could go unnoticed, hoping that if I get my voice to sound like the other male students around me, I wouldn’t be found out,” Abraham said.
General admission tickets are $25 and $10 for MDC students with a valid MDC ID.
