Five Miami Dade College students—Paula Vieira, Amalia Mariaca, Dayron Leon, Yanina Reyes, and Ana Maria Quevedo—were selected to participate in the Latino Leadership Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership this past June.
The free week-long program aimed at developing young Latino leaders featured 41 students from across the nation and included a curriculum that had classes on community organizing, moral leadership, public speaking and arts and activism, among other topics.
The five MDC students, who participated in the program, are now charged with developing and implementing a community service project utilizing their leadership skills during the next school year.
To apply, for next year’s program, students must be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident; nominated by your college or university; have a minimum GPA of 3.2; demonstrate outstanding leadership talent and interest in improving the community through public services. MDC students must be in their second year.
