Miami Dade College will pay tribute to Cuban comedian/actor Leopoldo Fernandez, better known as Tres Patines, with an exhibition at West Campus, 3800 N.W. 115th Ave. The opening ceremony will take place on Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in Room 1102.
The exhibit, Cosa Más Grande: Memories of the Legendary Tres Patines, consists of personal artifacts and photographs of the late comedian, as well as audio recordings of his radio and television broadcasts.
At the opening, musicians will perform songs written by Fernandez himself. The Cristina Masdueños’ dancers will perform and there will also be a screening of the film Olé Cuba, which portrays 1950s Cuban society.
“It promises to be a great event, remembering a man who had a very positive impact on society,” said associate director of learning resources at West Campus, Sara Alegría.
In 1959, Fernandez was exiled to Miami where he continued performing in theaters, television programs and movies throughout the U.S. and Latin America. He is widely regarded as being one of the most popular comedians in Hispanic culture.
The exhibition will be displayed through Oct. 14, and it is free and open to the public.
