Former Reporter Sports Editor Lands Job In Georgia

Jonathan Perez, 23, who served as the sports editor for The Reporter during the 2012-2013 school year, landed a job with CBS affiliated television station WMAZ in Macon, Georgia.

Perez began working with WMAZ on Sept. 6 as a multi-skilled sports journalist. His duties will include reporting and covering various sports  practices, writing, shooting, and editing news stories for on-air broadcasting and packaged reports.

“I’m extremely grateful for my family and friends and The Reporter,” Perez said. “It was my starting point as a journalist.”

While at The Reporter, Perez said he learned how to ask the right questions.

Perez graduated from the Honors College at Kendall Campus in 2013 and transferred to the University of Florida, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications in 2015.

In Gainesville, he was involved with the UF student broadcast media. He also interned at Miami’s NBC 6 in 2014.
