North Campus New Student Center Names New Director

Jessica Catambay-Lopez took a new post as the North Campus New Student Center Director on Oct. 31. The New Student Center helps incoming students transition to college life, conducting orientation sessions.

“I am looking forward to work with the team to help establish solid transition processes for new students at the campus,” Catambay-Lopez said.  “And create paths for new students to access the opportunities that MDC provides through education and workforce readiness.”

Catambay-Lopez has been at North Campus since April of 2012, serving as director of the Student Life Department for 18 months. Before that she served as the assistant to the chair of Chemistry, Physics and Earth Sciences Department for three years.

Prior to Miami Dade College, she worked at Johnson and Wales University in North Miami for six years as assistant to the chair for the College of Business. She also worked at Historic Entertainment, Inc. for 12 years as their director of outreach and event management and for Florida West International Airways for two years as their technical publications editor.

Catambay-Lopez has a bachelor’s of arts in history and English from Florida State University, and a master’s of science in higher education administration and leadership from Capella University in Minneapolis.
