StoryBytes, a student-led digital media platform at Kendall Campus, is a finalist for the Associated Collegiate Press’ Innovation Pacemaker Award.
It joins the Indiana Daily Student, The Los Angeles Loyolan and The Daily Emerald at the University of Oregon as one of four finalists nationwide. The award recognizes overall excellence and encourages “out-of-the-box thinking.”
Winners will be announced on Nov. 7 at the Westin Kansas City at Crown Center.
“Being named an Innovation Pacemaker finalist validates the tremendous amount of work our students have put into building StoryBytes from the ground up,” said Emily Sendin, a professor of English, speech, literature and creative writing at Kendall Campus, who serves as adviser to StorBytes.
Founded in 2024, StoryBytes allows students to experiment with digital storytelling through podcasts, documentaries, short films and multimedia journalism. It’s the first student-led media organization at the College that is devoted exclusively to digital storytelling.
During its tenure, the digital media platform has expanded its work through partnerships with organizations such as DVERSO and WLRN. They have also created interactive media-literacy projects, including a First Amendment Escape Room for Student Press Freedom Day.
