Alumni Speaker Series To Feature Guillermo Escalona

Miami Dade College’s Alumni Speaker Series will present Guillermo Escalona, who serves as director of pastoral care at the Miami Cancer Institute, on April 28 at 6:30 p.m. via Blackboard Collaborate.

Escalona will give a lecture about the 10 keys to happiness and ways students can find happiness within themselves.

“I will be sharing some topics on where you find happiness and how you can connect with happiness,” Escalona said. “Oftentimes happiness is within and these topics are like keys that open the door to happiness.”

At the Miami Cancer Institute, Escalona focuses on spiritual and psychological healing for outpatients, current patients and staff. He also hosts the radio program La Hora Positiva in 670 La Poderosa, a Spanish AM radio station that broadcasts across Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

Escalona graduated from Kendall Campus with an associate’s degree in fine and studio arts in 1977. He earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Florida International University in 1981, as well as a master’s of divinity in theology, philosophy and pastoral care from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1987.

In 2014, he was awarded the Chaplain of the Year Award from the Florida Baptist Convention. He received the Golden Age Award from the Latino Center on Aging in 2019.

The event is free and open to the public. Students must RSVP on this website to receive a link to the event.
