Dominican musician Joan Soriano brings old-school charm and modern sensibility to bachata during his South Florida debut at the MDC Live Arts’ Little Havana Social Club, a series of dance parties in a historic building featuring live bands, at the Koubek Center, 2705 S.W. Third St., on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m.

Soriano, who performs with his family band, is known as the Dominican Republic’s Duke of Bachata. His music is described as evoking the countryside and sweeter times, with nimble runs and articulate phrases on his steel-string guitar that give an urban, contemporary edge to his music.

There will be food trucks and exhibitions open to the public at the event. People can listen to the traditional Latin music while playing dominos with friends.

General admission is $10. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free. For tickets go to: mdclivearts.org/shows/joan-soriano.html.
