Biophilic Exhibit Opens At Kendall Campus

The Learning Commons at Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104th St., is hosting the Biophilic Design – Japanese Teahouses of the Mangrove Moon exhibit through Aug. 11.

Curated by professor Lyle Culver, the exhibit connects people to nature through biophilic works—structures that integrate environmental characteristics such as sunlight, air and organic materials. The showcase displays the work of 18 students from Culver’s Architectural Design Studio 2 (1302) summer course.

It features Japanese tea houses accompanied by ceramic tables, wood screens, paintings, mosaics and hanging pieces that are in harmony with native South Florida mangroves.

“These are the architectures of the designers and the dreamers who will be shaping the world that we will all be living in,” said Learning Commons instructional assistant Dennis Edelen.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.
