It is the historical fiction novel written by American author Julie Otsuka about a Japanese American family sent to an internment camp in the Utah desert during World War II.

“The Big Read is a month long celebration of a particular literary work,” said Paula Fernandez, the program’s coordinator. “It is designed to revitalize the role of reading in American culture.”

This year, The Big Read will be helping the community to rediscover the contemporary classic matched with several other activities and events. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

All activities and events are open to the public.
