County Program Offers $5 Tickets For Students To Attend Local Cultural Events

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs has created a program for students called Culture Shock Miami that allows them to buy tickets for performances for $5.

Since 2004, the program has sought to cultivate the audience of the future. The belief is that students make their own entertainment choices during this age range, said program manager Christina Tassy-Beauvoir.

Through their website www.cultureshockmiami.com, students between the ages of 13 and 22 can purchase tickets. They

are required to present their student identification cards and a confirmation email at the box office of the event.

“We believe this will enhance the student’s experience and lead to future experiences when they will be able to afford the regular price,” Beauvoir said.
The website works with local cultural organizations such as the Perez Art Museum Miami, Zoo Miami and Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. The program is sustained by the tickets the organizations provide.

Performances include live theatre, dance shows, operas and community workshops.
