Cuban Author To Discuss Historical Novel At Koubek Center

José Raúl Vidal y Franco, a Cuban historian and writer, will discuss his book entitled What of Puerto Príncipe: José Martí Among Weapons, Bandits and Traitors at the Koubek Center, 2705 S.W. 3rd St., on May 22 at 7:30 p.m.

The book, released in 2014, discusses historical events such as weapon shipments to Puerto Príncipe meant to ignite a Cuban independence revolution and analyze the scheme’s eventual failure as a result of the opposition party, the Camagüey bourgeoisie.

Vidal y Franco, who has released more than six novels, will share his knowledge of the event alongside Rosa Leonor Whitmarsh, professor and author; Julio M. Shiling, political scientist and writer and Fernández Cepero, poet and writer. After the discussion, there will a Q&A session and book signing.

The event is free and open to the public.
