Hialeah Campus Awarded $5,000 Health Literacy Grant

On May 10, the School of Continuing Education and Professional Development at Hialeah Campus was awarded a $5,000 grant by the Florida Literacy Coalition in partnership with the Florida Blue Foundation, a nonprofit to help people and communities achieve better health.

The grant awarded the MDC Health Literacy Project for the fifth consecutive year.

This is a fantastic program we look forward to continue implementing at the Hialeah Campus,” said Luis Rodriguez, the program director at the campus’ School of Continuing Education and Professional Development.

The project teaches English, within the health context, for speakers of other languages. With the funds, students will continue to create different projects such as presentations and events to raise awareness on health issues such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity and smoking.
