Homestead Campus To Rename Building A On Feb. 25 In Honor Of Its Founding President

Miami Dade College’s Homestead Campus will host an on-campus ceremony on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. to designate Building A as the Dr. Roy G. Phillips Center.

Roy Gene Phillips served as the Campus’ founding president. He continually advocated for students to have access to academic opportunities. 

The 26,828 square foot facility, where Phillips had his office for more than a decade, currently houses the Student Life Department, admissions, advising and registration.

Efforts to rename the building began a month after his passing in January of 2021 when Carmen Morris, the director of communications at Homestead Campus during Phillips’ time there, created an online petition that obtained more than 2,600 signatures.

Nicole Molina

Nicole Molina, 18, is a mass communication and political science major in the Honors College at Kendall Campus. Molina, who graduated from Florida Christian School in 2021, will serve as a staff writer for The Reporter during the 2022-2023 school year. She aspires to pursue a career in law.
