Koubek Center Celebrates Tango Legend With The Soul of New Tango

The Koubek Center will host The Soul of New Tango on March 12 at 8 p.m. via Facebook Live

The event celebrates what would be the 100th birthday of Astor Piazzolla—an Argentine tango composer, bandleader, and musician. Before passing away on July 4, 1992, he revolutionized traditional tango into a new style termed Nuevo Tango, which incorporates elements from jazz and classical music.

Musicians from around the globe will perform some of Piazzolla’s classics at the event. It will include an appearance from Miguel Arraban, a bandoneon player who performed on Broadway under Piazzolla’s direction.

Attendees will also watch the trailer for the biographical film The Years of the Shark, which offers a behind-the-scenes look into Piazzolla’s life.

This event is free and open to the public.
