The freshman, who was selected to the FCSAA All-Suncoast Conference First Team, led Miami Dade College with 353 points scored and 306 kills during the 2021 season.

Cornelio—from La Vega, Dominican Republic—was the best player on a Lady Sharks squad that was crowned FCSAA State Volleyball Champions in November. The team finished the year with No. 6 national ranking and an 18-5 record including 13 wins in conference.

“I feel I helped my team and they helped me back,” Cornelio said. “This award is not only mine but also [for] my team, my coaches, my family and friends.”
