Lady Sharks Volleyball Team To Hold Open Tryouts

The volleyball team at Miami Dade College, which was 24-9 last season, is hosting open tryouts on June 27 at 4 p.m. at the Kendall Campus gym, 11011 S.W. 104 St., Room G-210.

Candidates will participate in drills such as hitting, blocking and serving.

“We’re looking for someone that has the skills academically and also inside the volleyball court,” said Head Volleyball Coach Origenes “Kiko” Benoit. “Someone that has work ethic and is a good team member.”

To try out, athletes must provide proof of a physical conducted within the last year, insurance and any gear they regularly use. Athletes must also sign a safety waiver before participating in the tryout.

The last time the Lady Sharks had open tryouts was in 2019. One of the hopefuls, Daniela Tobar, made the squad and became the team’s starting defense specialist for two years.

“[Daniela] earned that spot,” Benoit said. “Great character, great player, great academics, great team member overall.”
