MDC Live Arts To Present Niyaz: The Fourth Light

MDC Live Arts Lab will host the tribute performance Niyaz: The Fourth Light at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, 3385 N.E. 188 St., on Feb. 21 at 8 p.m.

The dance and musical show honors the first female Sufi Mystic Rabia Al Basri. Rabia Al Basri, who was born as a slave in 8th century Iraq, is known for liberating herself from slavery and is currently recognized as a Sufi Mystic saint.

Niyaz is a Canadian-Iranian band that uses a mix of medieval Sufi poetry, traditional Iranian folk songs and electronic music to express social commentaries.

The production is part of the 2018-2019 performing arts season that focuses on immigrants, women and innovators.
