MDC Renames IAC To The Eduardo J. Padrón Campus

In honor of retiring College President Eduardo J. Padrón, Miami Dade College officially renamed InterAmerican Campus the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus on May 17.

During the ceremony, the College announced S.W. 6th Street would be named Eduardo J. Padrón Street. He was also given a key to the campus. In addition, City of Miami Mayor, Francis X. Suarez, and Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Carlos A. Giménez, proclaimed May 17 Eduardo J. Padrón Day.

When Padrón addressed the audience, he recalled knocking on people’s doors along S.W. 6th Street as a young Cuban immigrant, asking to wash their cars as a way to make money.

“This is something I never dreamed would happen,” Padrón said.

The District Board of Trustees unanimously voted to rename the campus to honor Padrón’s almost 50 year tenure at the College during a meeting on March 29.
