MDC To Allow Graduates Two Guests At Commencement Ceremony

Miami Dade College graduates will be allowed up to two guests at the 2020-21 commencement ceremony at Marlins Park on May 1, College President Madeline Pumariega said in an email to students on Thursday.

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis starting Monday, April 26, at noon. Students can pick them up at their campus’ Student Life office.

“Commencement is such a special celebration and milestone, and we know your family and friends, like us, are extremely proud of you,” Pumariega said in the email. “That’s why it’s amazing they will now have the opportunity to join you.”

Last December, the College held on-campus graduation ceremonies for the class of 2019-20 but only the graduates were allowed to attend. This year’s graduation, which will also be available via livestream, will be held during three outdoor ceremonies at Marlins Park, 501 Marlins Way, in Little Havana.

Strict social distancing rules will be followed. Attendees must wear a mask, stay six feet apart and undergo a temperature check before entering the stadium. There will also be hand sanitation stations throughout the venue.

Dr. Noubar Afeyan, the CEO of Flagship Pioneering and Co-Founder of Moderna (North, Medical and West Campuses), City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez ( Kendall, Homestead and Padrón Campuses) and Miami Herald Executive Editor Monica R. Richardson (Wolfson and Hialeah Campuses) will be the guest speakers.
