MDC To Receive Award For Its Study Abroad Program

Miami Dade College is one of three institutions nationwide—Indiana University Bloomington and the University of North Carolina Wilmington were the others—to receive the 2021 Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for Campus Internalization.

The award, given by the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors, recognizes institutions for overall distinction in practices, ideologies and policies related to internationalization.

Miami Dade College is being recognized for its Educate Tomorrow Abroad program that helps homeless and foster-care students find study abroad opportunities. The program was launched in 2017 in partnership with Educate Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization focused on providing students economic stability, affordable housing, and physical and emotional well-being.

The award is named after the late senator Paul Simon, who advocated for international education and fought to increase the number of diverse students who complete study abroad programs prior to graduation via grants.
