Miami Dade College has made great strides to remove international barriers and broaden the participation in study abroad learning for its students.
That concept has helped the Medical Campus garner an honorable mention in the category of Internationalizing the Community College, for its Diasporic Knowledge Remittance Study Abroad Program.
The Institute of International Education announced the winners of the annual IIE Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education recently. The IIE will present the awards at a ceremony in New York City March 20 as part of its annual Best Practices in Internalization Conference for campus professionals.
The Diasporic Knowledge Remittance Study Abroad Program provides non-traditional students the opportunity to study health sciences abroad and reconnect with their countries of heritage in the Caribbean and Latin America.
The study abroad programs in the health sciences include physician assistant, nursing, dental hygiene, as well as vision care in Haiti, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.
