Meek Center Selects New Executive Director

Chimene Garrison was appointed as the new executive director of the Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center in Liberty City on Aug. 3. 

Garrison will oversee the center’s enrollment and community efforts.

“I look forward to building on and expanding the wonderful partnerships that exist with Miami Dade College and developing the center into a hub for educational advancement,” Garrison said. 

Garrison started her career at North Campus in 1989, serving a one-year stint as a part-time financial aid clerk before becoming a full-time. In 1998, she was promoted to financial aid advisor. 

For the past 20 years, she served as director of financial aid services at North Campus.  

Garrison earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and teaching in 1997 and a master’s degree in counselor education in 2003, both from St. Thomas University.

Hugo Guillen, 21, is a psychology major at North Campus. Guillen, who graduated high school from Colegio y Academia Trilce in Peru in 2016, will serve as a briefing, forum and A/E writer for The Reporter during the 2023-2024 school year. He aspires to become a writer.
