Miami Book Fair To Flood The Streets Of Downtown With Books

Miami Book Fair returns to Downtown Miami for its 40th installation from Nov. 12-19, hosting hundreds of renowned authors.

“The Book Fair is a way to create a space for everyone in our community to come together and celebrate,” said MBF Director of Programs Lissette Mendez. “Writers have been able to take those stories and turn them into entertainment and learning opportunities for others.”

Festivities will kick off with a flashback block party featuring Bronx native and Grammy award-winning DJ/producer Louie Vega. The event, which is open to the public, is on Nov.12 at 5 p.m. at Kyriakides Plaza at Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Ave.

Writers, journalists and poets scheduled to appear at this year’s Book Fair include award-winning poet and author Elizabeth Acevedo, singer-songwriter Joan Baez and novelist and activist Ru Freeman

Also featured will be notable figures in the entertainment industry such as American actress and talk show host Jada Pinkett Smith and multi-award winning American actress Kerry Washington

The popular Evenings With series will feature American actor and comedian Henry Winkler, former American White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, American novelist Walter Mosely and American physician and author Abraham Verghese

“There’s always the opportunity to learn something new or hear about something going on,” Mendez said.

The ReadCarribean program series will navigate the Caribbean diaspora through writing workshops, children’s programming and discussions. Presentations will be offered virtually and in person.

The Fair will also feature the IberoAmerican program, an event that will present noted Spanish-speaking authors, such as journalist Rosa Montero and Peruvian writer Jaime Bayly

Another staple event is the popular three-day Street Fair, which will take place Nov. 17-19 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will showcase books, handmade goods and live music. Admission will be free for everyone on Nov. 17.

Attractions at the Street Fair include The Children’s Alley, which features activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling and theatrical and musical performances.

The Street Fair is free to Miami Dade College students, faculty and staff with their MDC ID. The entrance fee for non-MDC attendees on-site is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and teenagers; children 12 and under receive free admission.
