Miami Book Fair To Make In-Person Return In November

After a year of virtual-only events, the Miami Book Fair will make its in-person return. The 38th annual literary festival will host more than 100 national and internationally renowned authors in downtown Miami from Nov. 14-21.

“The Fair brings our community together in fellowship and that’s great because the more time we spend with each other the more likely we are to maintain peace through mutual respect and understanding,” said Lissette Mendez, director of programs for the MBF.

Some of the writers, journalists and poets scheduled to appear include Brazilian novelist and author Nélida Piñón, Venezuelan journalist and author Karina Sainz Borgo, Dubai-based American novelist Avni Doshi and Cuban poet and author Emilio de Armas

The popular Evenings With series will feature six nights of readings and discussions including bestselling American novelist Amor Towles, award-winning journalist and documentarian Sebastian Junger and American novelist, gay activist and AIDS historian Sarah Schulman.

Another prime event is the three-day weekend Street Fair, which takes place Nov. 19 through Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It features books, handmade goods, live music on The Porch stage and a farmers’ market. The Children’s Alley will feature activities like arts and crafts, storytelling and theatrical performances.

The Street Fair is free for Miami Dade College students, faculty and staff with their MDC ID. For non-MDC attendees, the entrance fee is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and teenagers; children 12 and under receive free admission.

Along with the IberoAmerican Program, an event that presents Spanish-speaking authors from around the world, the Fair will have approximately 35 programs that present books written in Spanish and their authors. Those presentations will be offered virtually and in-person.

People that choose to participate in the festival from home can partake in online conversations and live-streams with authors.

Live virtual events will be held on Zoom or CrowdCast and audience members will be able to participate in Q&A’s with authors, critics and journalists. A listing of events can be found at miamibookfaironline.com.

“Whether online or on-campus, ” Mendez said. “Miami Book Fair will present fiction, nonfiction and poetry by authors and thought leaders inviting us all to take deeper dives into other worlds and experiences.”
