Miami-Dade County Partners With Charities To Aid SNAP Recipients

Miami-Dade County partnered with United Way Miami, Farm Share, and Feeding South Florida to provide free food to those impacted by the paused SNAP benefits as a result of the most recent government shutdown.

SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a government assistance program that helps low income families, seniors and people with disabilities pay for groceries.

The federal government shutdown, which lasted 43 days, paused payments of SNAP benefits to millions of Americans, resulting in a large spike of food insecurity for the almost three million SNAP recipients in Florida alone.

United Way Miami is accepting financial donations to help pay for food items, while Farm Share and Feeding South Florida are taking direct food donations and financial donations.
