Miami Herald Photographer, Matias Ocner, To Appear At MDC Journalism Speaker Series

Matias Ocner, a photographer for the Miami Herald, will be the third guest of the 2026 MDC Journalism Speaker Series on April 15.

It will take place at noon at Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104 St., in Room M-239.

The Argentinian-born photographer has covered protests, natural disasters and various sporting events throughout the last decade. He contributed to the Herald’s team that won a 2022 Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside.

Ocner earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications with a concentration in photography from Florida International University in 2016.

He also received an associate degree from Kendall Campus in 2012, where he served as a staff writer for The Reporter.

The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched to provide students an opportunity to meet and network with working journalists. Since 2008, more than 89 journalists have appeared.
