New Director Of Student Services At The Meek Center

Kenyasha McDaniel Knight has been selected as the new director of student services at the Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center.

Knight, whose first day was July 20, will oversee the student services department and work with the North Campus advising and recruitment directors.

She replaces Michael Mason, who retired last month after 21 years at the Meek Center.

“It feels great to return to somewhere near and dear to my heart,” Knight said. “My passion is student services. [One] of my goals is to ensure that students receive the best experience possible.”

Knight started her career at Miami Dade College as a student assistant in the North Campus President’s Office in 2005 before becoming a full-time clerk two years later. In 2011, she was promoted to staff associate senior at the Meek Center.

In 2016, she left MDC to be a dual enrollment academic advisor at Florida International University before returning to the Meek Center.

Knight earned a bachelor’s in English from FIU in 2009. In 2013, she earned a master’s degree in English education from Nova Southeastern University and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in higher education leadership from FIU.

Luisana Ortiz

Luisana Ortiz, 17, is a dual enrollment student at the West Campus. Ortiz, who is a senior at Ronald W. Reagan/ Doral Senior High School, will serve as a staff writer for The Reporter during the 2020-2021 school year. She aspires to be a staff writer for The New Yorker, a cultural and literary magazine.
