COVID-19 Testing Sites Open At North And Kendall Campuses

Students and employees at Miami Dade College can now get tested for COVID-19 on-campus thanks to an agreement with Curative, an organization that provides tests to produce data for health officials.

The sites, located at the North and Kendall campuses, opened on Jan. 20 and are by appointment only using the following link.

Both facilities are open to the community and use swab testing. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Keeping students and employees safe and healthy at MDC is not only our goal, but also critical to properly serving our students, maintaining operations, and continuity for all,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega in an email announcement to students and employees. “The physical safety of our students and employees is also directly tied to the fiscal health of our College. When we work to keep each other healthy, everyone wins.”

The North Campus, 11380 N.W 27th Ave., site will be on the southeast corner of campus near Traz Powell Stadium. Access will be from the 27 Avenue entrance only. Both sites will be positioned away from the campuses’ central areas.

The Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104th St., site will be in parking Lot 3, just west of building M. Access will be from S.W. 104th St. and 113th Place only.

“I think it’s reflective of the college’s role in the community,” said Elizabeth Ramsay, president of the United Faculty of Miami Dade College. “I think it is not only a service to our students but also to their families, their co-workers, and to everyone who relies on them.”

Curative will provide the testing materials and personnel to staff the sites. People who are undergoing a test should not eat, drink, or smoke 20 minutes prior to the test. Results will be sent through a private portal within 24-48 hours.

“It is such a relief to know that Miami Dade College keeps providing resources to maintain the health and well-being of its students and staff in such hard times,” said Valentina Diaz Caserta, president of the Wolfson Campus Pre-Health Club. “Their initiative to partner with Curative and provide COVID-19 testing will promote everyone’s safety at our campuses and create a smoother transition to blended and in-person classes.”
