North Campus Appoints New Director Of Financial Aid Services

Berta De Leon was selected as the new director of financial aid services at North Campus on July 31. 

De Leon, 44, will supervise the financial aid office to support students and help the campus adhere to federal, state and institutional policies. 

“I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to lead and guide the financial aid office in fulfilling its mission of providing equitable access to education,” De Leon said. 

She started her career at Miami Dade College in 1997 at North Campus, serving a three-year stint as a student assistant. From 2000 to 2003 she worked as an administrative assistant for the Florida Work Experience Program at the campus.

After serving as a financial aid and work-study coordinator at North Campus from 2004 to 2015, De Leon transferred to Kendall Campus, where she worked as a financial aid services manager and assistant director work programs from 2016 to 2021. 

For the past two years, De Leon served as the associate director for financial aid, admission and registration at West Campus. 

She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida International University in 2003. Four years later, she obtained a master’s degree in accounting from Nova Southeastern University.

Juan S. Gomez

Juan S. Gomez, 21, is a psychology major in The Honors College at the Kendall Campus. Gomez, who graduated from Robert Morgan Educational Center in 2021, will serve as editor-in-chief, briefing editor and forum editor for The Reporter during the 2022-2023 school year. He aspires to become a social sciences professor.
