Panel To Address Obstacles For Women In STEM

Computer science professor Javier Coto will host Sisters in STEM, a panel discussion focused on women in the field, at Homestead Campus, 500 College Terrace, on Feb. 20 at 12:40 p.m. in Room F222.

The panel will invite four women to discuss how race and gender can affect a woman’s academic and professional experiences.

“I just want to raise awareness,” Coto said. “When you look at [statistics], women of color are the most underrepresented.”

These women will discuss how they overcame barriers as women of color in the STEM field.

The event is free and open to the public.

For more information, contact Coto at (305) 237-5192 or jcoto@mdc.edu.
