Police Arrest Man After Instagram Threat: ‘Everyone At MDC Dies Today’

A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday after he made an Instagram post threatening that “everyone at MDC dies today,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Jose Santos of Hialeah was charged with written threats to kill or do bodily injury, a felony.

According to the affidavit, Santos said he was upset at Miami Dade College over “their difficulty to enroll without seeing a committee.” Monday was the first day of fall classes at MDC.

When asked by The Reporter on Tuesday, the College did not confirm if Santos is a student.

Officers received a call from Hialeah Campus August 24 at around 10:30 a.m. concerning a threat to commit a mass act of terrorism.

Investigators from the major crimes unit identified Santos as the owner of the Instagram account that posted the threat and arrested him at 141 West 31 St., which is about three miles away from Hialeah Campus.

“Upon learning of a threatening social media post involving the College, MDC Public Safety immediately contacted and worked closely with the Hialeah Police Department. Law enforcement responded swiftly and took the individual into custody,” the College said in a statement.

Santos entered a not guilty plea during his first court appearance on Aug. 25. As of Tuesday evening, he is still being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Tuesday’s incident is the second high profile arrest in connection with the Hialeah Campus in the last five months. On March 9, Leonard Diaz was arrested in the campus parking garage after he brandished a firearm during a verbal confrontation with another student.
