Professor Named To TIAA Difference Maker 100 List

Miami Dade College professor Sara Garman was named a Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America Difference Maker 100 on Oct. 17 for founding the North Campus Food Pantry.

Garman received $10,000 to be used toward the food pantry.

“I am honored,” Garman said. “It’s definitely like a second job, but to be one of the 100 people chosen, that’s making a difference.”

Garman, a humanities professor at North Campus, founded the food pantry in 2014 to collect and donate food and hygiene products to underprivileged students. It services more than 200 students every month.

The TIAA donated $1 million to the non-profit organizations who are helping their community for their centennial anniversary.
