Trinidad Argüelles, an associate senior professor who serves as the Psi Beta chapter advisor at West Campus, was awarded the 2026 Virginia Staudt Sexton Faculty Advisor Award by the Psi Beta Community College National Honor Society in Psychology.
The award recognizes advisors of chapters that demonstrate dedication to motivating their students and promoting ethical behavior. This marks the third consecutive year Argüelles wins the award.
“To me, that means that the time we spent mentoring and supporting students, facilitating all of these opportunities really pays off,” said Argüelles, who dedicated the honor to her students.
Argüelles has been a professor for the past 13 years at MDC. Before working at the College, she did research at the University of Miami Medical School Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and Aging for 20 years.
In her current work, she emphasizes peer-mentoring, grounded in what she learned from her time as a researcher.
“Ultimately, the awards are wonderful, but what makes me most proud is our students,” Argüelles said in an e-mail. “It’s their research, leadership, service, academic accomplishments, and the difference they are making in our community.”
