Reporter Alumna Lands Job As On-Air Journalist At América TeVé

Valentina Gonzalez, who served as the Wolfson Campus bureau chief for The Reporter during the 2018-19 school year, has been hired as a reporter at América TeVé, a local Hispanic television station.

Gonzalez, 22, started her new assignment on March 15. Her responsibilities include pitching, covering and writing news stories.

“As a kid, I would ask my parents to buy me microphones so I could interview people when they came to my house,” Gonzalez said. “So, it’s all still surreal since this was my dream.”

Gonzalez got her start in journalism at The Reporter as the Wolfson Campus Bureau Chief. She served as a columnist and a news and briefing writer and oversaw the newspaper’s distribution at the downtown campus.

Her career at América TeVé began as an intern on the assignment desk, for six months, in 2018. In July of 2019, she got a part-time position as a video editor and a few months later she was promoted to full-time.
