Reporter Named CMA Pinnacle Awards Finalist For Breaking News

Heidi Perez-Moreno and Corbin Bolies have been selected as College Media Association Pinnacle Awards finalists in the Best Breaking News Story category.

Perez-Moreno served as The Reporter’s editor-in-chief last year and Bolies was a news writer. They are the only finalists from a two-year school.

The CMA selected the duo based on a story they co-wrote about the Board of Trustees decision to reboot the College’s presidential search on July 24, 2019.

Students from the University of Miami, Vanderbilt University, West Virginia University and Northern Kentucky University are the other finalists.

Winners will be announced on Oct. 23 at the ACP/CMA Fall National College Media Convention that is being held virtually this year.

Perez-Moreno, 20, is now a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a staff writer for The Daily Tar Heel, the independent student newspaper at UNC.

Bolies, 21, is a junior at the University of Florida, where he serves as the university administration reporter for The Independent Florida Alligator.
