The students from the Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) at Miami Dade College completed more than 8,000 hours of volunteer work which included charity events and cooking competitions, placing them above other prestigious schools in Miami.
The MCI Culinary Stagiaire Program’s goal is to “add value to the student’s education and expand on their skills’’ said Jesus Vazquez, Program Coordinator of MCI.
The instructors encourage their students to complete these hours by letting them choose events and competitions of their liking.
One of their most memorable events was the Sauté & Sip on May 4th, 2013, a charity event where 80 students served as Sous Chefs at donor tables throughout the banquet hall.
By volunteering at these events, the culinary students have the chance to gain real world experience, and build on their own knowledge.
